Newspaper Articles April 1, 1906 - Clifton Avenue Bridge Over Cut is Now Very Close to Completion On March 11, 1853 the Delaware & Cobb's Gap Railroad merged with the Lacawanna and Western Railroad to form the Delaware Lackawanna & Western Railroad. The Delaware, Lacawanna & Western Railroad purchased the Morris & Essex Railroad on December 10, 1868. It merged with the Erie Railroad on October 17, 1960 to form the Erie Lackawanna Railroad.
The railroad raised the tracks starting in 1901. The Delaware, Lacawanna & Western Rairoad purchased the Morris & Essex Railroad on December 10, 1868. From the 1874 Newark City Directory: Short line between Newark and New York and the most comfortable and direct route to all parts of the West.
