From the 1874 Newark City Directory:

Trains from Newark connect at Paterson with trains for Newburg, Port Jervis and all important stations on main line and branches. Also connects at Turner's with Day Express (Drawing Room and Sleeping Coaches attached) for Rochester, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Suspension Bridge, Dunkirk, Cleveland and Cincinnati.

Trains from Newark connect at Paterson with Express Mail train for the West, and all important intermediate stations on main line.
