G. L. Erb

The business which Mr. G. L. Erb carries on at his ware-rooms, No 22 William Street, was inaugurated in 1859 by Mr. A. L. Erb. Subsequent to the latter's decease in 1883, his wife, Mrs. Eva M Erb, assumed control of the business with the services of Mr. G. L. Erb as manager. This gentleman came into possession of the business in 1890 and continues to maintain for it the high reputation it enjoys, as being one of the best establishments of this nature to be found in the city of Newark. The duties of an undertaker are difficult and irksome at the best, and the citizens of this city have reason to congratulate themselves on the high character and merit of the gentlemen who carry on this business in their midst. Where the standard of excellence in this business is as high as it is in Newark, perhaps it is not quite proper to make comparisons and indeed we have no intention of so doing, still, for all that, we cannot forbear calling the attention of our readers to Mr. Erb's establishment at No. 22 William Street, for it is one of the best appointed and well managed in the city, and deserves the appreciation it has met with in the more than thirty years it has existed. Mr. G. L. Erb, who has been in the business for a great number of years, has always shown his fitness for the task he has undertaken. He carries on all the branches of his profession, funeral directing, furnishing and embalming, and everything pertaining to the management of funerals, and employs six courteous assistants. Mr. Erb is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and the premises he occupies are 20 x 50 feet in dimensions. Orders are received by telephone (517), and the office may be found open day and night. The services of an undertaking establishment should be courteous in the superlative degree, and such a service the public may be sure of receiving in the sad event of their requiring it, if they secure the services of Mr. G. L. Erb.

G. L. Erb

The enterprise so able carried on by him at No. 22 William Street had its on inception in 1859, when it was founded by Mr. A. L. Erb who died in 1883, and was succeeded by his widow. In 1890, Mr. G. For thirty-five years the same eligible location has been occupied as warerooms and offices, and has become a landmark of this section of the city. The peculiar calling of the undertaker requires a temperament and disposition possessed by few. To him is intrusted the superintendence of the funeral ceremony and all pertaining to the last sad rites of the dead, and success is only awarded to those who are possessed of a sympathetic nature, and due regard and respect for their sacred duties. It is almost needless to remark that Mr. Erb is endowed with all the traits of character needed in this vocation for the successful prosecution of the business, and to give satisfaction to his numerous and appreciative patrons.

The wareroom, which is 20 x 50 feet in area, is neatly appointed, and here is constantly kept on hand an extensive assortment of coffins, caskets, robes, trimmings, and funeral requisites of all kinds. Connected with this line of enterprise Mr. Erb is joint proprietor with Mr. C. W. Heilman of the Erb stables at No's. 22 & 24 William Street, where horses are boarded by the day, week, or month, and where horses and stylish vehicles are let out for hire, fine coaches for weddings, receptions and society calls being a specialty. Mr. Erb attends to embalming, of which he has made a special study, and to the entire superintendence of funerals, and furnishes everything desired at reasonable charges. He is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and Newark's leading funeral director. The telephone call is 519.
