Nicholas Manger began his undertaking business in 1883.
From: Newark Handsomely Illustrated 1894 Nicholas Manger There are many able representatives of the undertaking profession in Newark, and among them there are none better qualified than Mr. N. Manger, whose well-appointed establishment is No. 173 Springfield AVenue. He was born in Germany, and has been in business here for the past eleven years. His warerooms and office are spacious, tastefully appointed, and supplied with every convenience. He keeps constantly on hand a full and complete assortment of burial cases, caskets and coffins of all the very latest styles. His stock of furnishings is of the latest designs, and at all prices. Mr. Manger is prepared to take entire charge of obsequies, selecting cemetery lots, etc. He makes a specialty of renewing funeral wreaths, rendering them as good as new. He likewise carries out crematory instructions, and has already filled out this disposition of the remains of the departed at the well known crematory in Long Island. His office is open day and night, and in connection with his undertaking business Mr. Manger is prepared to furnish stylish and fully equipped equipages. He is as popular socially as he is professionally, being a member of the Schurtzenbund, St. Boniface, St. Benedict, and St. Augustine Societies, the St. Rupert Council, Catholic Benevolent Legion, Chosen Friends, Order of the Golden Star, Arion, Harmonic, and Aurora Singing Societies, etc. He is also a prominent and active member of the Undertakers' Union.
