M. A. Mullin

Few liverymen in Newark have met with greater success in their calling than the enterprising citizen whose ideal livery stable forms one of the illustrations herewith given. The establishment is one of the most complete and best equipped in the city, and is another demonstration of what push, enterprise and perseverance can accomplish. Mr. Mullin is also proprietor of the Standard Cab Company, and controls the largest number of the finest coaches to be found in any similar institution in the State. The plant is thoroughly equipped with every improvement known to the business, and employment is furnished to skilled harness makers, painters and blacksmiths on the premises. Besides being a practical business man, he is ever ready to respond to the call of progress, and devotes considerable time and attention to aquatic affairs, having for several years served as a commodore on the Passaic River Amateur Rowing Association. He also conducts an undertaking establishment on Harrison AVenue and is largely identified with the growth of Newark, of which he is an honorable representative.

Peter M. Mullin

Probably there is no establishment in the city that has been more prominently identified with the progress that has been made in funeral arrangements than the well-known one conducted by Messrs. W. F. Mullin and J. L. Mullin, as managers of the estate of their late lamented father, Mr. Peter M. Mullin. This business has, since its inauguration, been conducted with such consistent energy and ability that it occupies at present the premier position in its particular line in Newark and vicinity. It was founded in 1870 by Mr. Peter M. Mullin, whose regretted and much lamented demise occurred in November 1891. The sons, who now control it, are both practical undertakers and embalmers, and are graduates of the New York College, and the Cincinnati School of Embalming. The warerooms and morgue are located at No. 91 Lafayette Street, where they occupy the ground floor and basement of a building 25 x 80 feet in dimensions. The stables are on Washington Street. Several hearses are at the service of the patrons of the house, and the staff of drivers and attendants who assist in the execution of funeral orders are most courteous and obliging. The patronage of the highest circles is accorded to the house, though at the same time the reasonable terms given to the poorer classes have conduced to establish a creditable and most honorable reputation for this old-established concern. The telephone call in No. 89, and orders are attended to at any hour of the day or night.

W. & J. Mullin

There are few men engaged in the funeral furnishing or undertaking profession that are possessed of the various business qualities enjoyed by Messrs. William and Joseph Mullin, managers of the estate of Peter Mullin. The house was established in 1870, and since the tragic death of the founder, which occurred in 1891, the business has been ably conducted by his sons, both of whom are graduates of the New York College and the Cincinnati School of Embalming. The ware-rooms and morgue are located at 91 Lafayette Street, and are thoroughly supplied with everything in the line of funeral furnishing goods.

Messrs. W. and J. Mullin, the managers, devote their personal attention to the business of their honored father, and are noted for their courteous and obliging treatment towards the bereaved families of those who entrust them with the last sad rites of decently interring their sacred dead. The house is one of the most honorable and trustworthy to be found in the business. Calls are promptly attended to at all hours of the day and night, and on the most reasonable terms.

Peter Martin Mullin

In Peter Martin Mullin, the well known and efficient undertaker of Newark, New Jersey, we have a man, young in years, yet with a devotion to the duties of his calling which might well do honor to a much older man. His well poised judgment and keen, analytical mind enable him to carry out the oft times difficult and delicate duties of his profession in a manner which wins the confidence and respect of all who have had dealings with him.

His father, Peter M. Mullin Sr., was a blacksmith in his earlier years, then engaged in the undertaking business, with which he was connected until his sudden and untimely death in November, 1891. He was killed by a railroad train at Market Street depot. He was one of the most prominent undertakers of the city, and was a freeholder of Newark for many years. He married, May 21, 1871, Annie Kelley, and had children; William, an undertaker in Newark; Joseph, engaged in the same business in Newark, James, an undertaker of Newark, and Peter Martin Mullin, an undertaker of Newark.

Peter Martin Mullin completed his education and entered upon his business career by associating himself with his brother William in the undertaking line. After a short time he abandoned this and entered the employ of the New York and New Jersey Telephone Company. On April 1, 1913, Mr. Mullin decided to continue the undertaking business of his father, now known as the Estate of Peter M. Mullin, at No 228 Lafayette Street. which is equipped in the most modern manner for the accommodation of his numerous patrons. Mr. Mullin is a devout member of St. James' Church.
