678 viewsAlthough Newark's subway cars originally only went as far north as Heller Parkway, in 1940 rails were extended a bit farther to a "stub terminal" at Franklin Avenue, where cars rolled up to a "Y", switched trolley poles and continued in the other direction. The car on the left is just completing its outbound journey. When single-ended PCC cars were acquired for the line in 1953, a turnaround loop was built a bit closer in and became the new Franklin Avenue station.
