Wilson From Nat Bodian: The Empire Theatre, a handsomely-designed structure of brick and stone as it appeared when it opened in downtown Newark in 1912. Known as Miner's Empire Theatre when it opened, it started as a variety house with approximately 1,000 seats. Nat Bodian remembers Burlesque at the Empire Theatre
