Frederick Nuse started his own business in 1894 at 92 Frelinghuysen Avenue "where the Public Service car barns now stand." Sometime after that he erected his own building at Frelinghuysen Avenue & Poinier Street. The Nuse Wagon Works manufactured wagons & --prior to assembly line standardization--automobile bodies. Frederick was joined in the business by his sons Frederick, George, Louis, Walter, & August who continued to run the firm at the same address until approximately 1953. A circa 1930 business card for Fred Nuse & Sons states "Manufacturers and Distributors of Carriages, Wagons and Automobiles; High Class Carriage and Automobile Painting; State Agents for McIntyre Passenger and Commercial Cars. Schildwachter High-class Limousine, Landaulet and Town Car Bodies."
