From "Newark and Its Leading Businessmen" 1891 The Newark and Irvington Street Railway Company opened its road for public traffic in June, 1868. It pass through a series of financial troubles, and finally got into the hands of Messrs. Battin, Keasby and Ballantine, and was by them sold out to the Newark Passenger Railway Company in 1890.
