The station opened in 1903 with the raising of the tracks above street level and featured a waiting room, restrooms, baggage area, a telegraph office and an newsstand.  The station replaced the Chestnut Street Station which utilized the ground level tracks.  The station underwent reconstruction in 1935, opening in 1937.
