Elbrecht Segars
|
Herman Elbrecht emigrated from Germany in 1866 via Baltimore and moved to Newark within a year or two. He lived the rest of his life in Newark and died there in 1909. He’s buried in the Woodland Cemetery along with some other family members. Herman Elbrecht married Maria (Tiechen) Elbrecht and they raised about a dozen children in Newark. He had a cigar shop in different locations at different times – 20 South Orange Ave., 163 Springfield Avenue, 149 Springfield Ave. and 179 13th Ave. This photo is possibly the 13th Avenue shop.
